Mark Lawrence joined Orion Security Solutions as the Senior Vice President of IT Security. Mark will build on Orion Security Solutions “layered” security methodology as more technical security devices are connected to an Internet Protocol network.
Mark formerly worked with the United States Department of State as a Security Engineering Officer with the Bureau of Diplomatic Security Service (DSS) for eleven years. Mark joined Diplomatic Security from North Carolina State University where he obtained his Masters of Science degree in Computer Network Engineering and his Bachelor of Science degree in Biological Life Sciences with a minor in Genetics. Mark also interned with Cisco Systems in Research Triangle Park while he was studying for his Network Engineering degree. Mark received advanced computer security training from the Department of State to include forensics, vulnerability scanning, computer security assessments, information assurance, to include, systems certification and accreditation, and also compliance and auditing.
Mark opened up the first Regional Computer Security Office in Bangkok, Thailand with DSS where he was responsible for the security of the Department of States’ unclassified and classified computer networks in Southeast Asia. Mark performed computer security reviews and audits of over 30 Department of State missions to identify vulnerabilities. He also was responsible for incident response and conducting computer forensics to include digital evidence acquisition and analysis using tools such as EnCase and FTK. Mark also provided guidance on the interpretation of computer security policies set forth by the Department of State.
From Bangkok Thailand, Mark became the Senior Regional Computer Security Officer in Frankfurt, Germany where he was responsible for the security of the Department’s networks in 80 missions. Mark performed computer security reviews, computer forensics and incident response for these missions and also supervised four Regional Computer Security Officers assigned to Germany, Greece and Russia. As the senior computer security officer, Mark was responsible for communicating computer security problems, events and trends to directors in Washington, DC.
Mark became the program manager for the Security Management System enterprise system for DSS. This worldwide network is the integration of selected technical security systems into an Internet Protocol network to provide real-time monitoring from 253 overseas and domestic facilities. Mark ran the day-to-day operations of this network to ensure availability, performance and reliability. This system integrated into technical security systems such as: automated access control, intrusion detection, trace detection, imminent danger notification, closed circuit television, identify verification, and environmental monitoring systems.
Mark’s addition to Orion Security Solutions greatly enhances Orion’s core capabilities and adds IT security to Orion’s portfolio of elite solutions and services.
